This bootleg preceded the release of The Specials debut album in 1979. The recording came to the attention music journalists at the time, who gave it favourable reviews, which must have met with a mixed reaction from Chrysalis officials who were on the verge of releasing the bands highly anticipated debut album.
The lack of an official album at the time, which this LP was pressed, would explain the often strange interpretations of the bands songs titles such as Youngsters (Gangsters) and the truly bizarre Zasaron (Guns of Navarone). The latter track is of particular interest as it sees Dammers keyboards taking the lead instead of the more familiar brass section of Rico and Dick Cuthell.
The Moonlight Club bootleg was officially released in 1992 but it is highly unlikely that this album will follow suit. However, a few tracks have been lifted directly from it and used on budget compilations such as The Best of Ska Live released on the Emporio label.
